Mechanical and rheological properties of carbon nanotube-reinforced polyethylene composites

چکیده
This paper investigates some mechanical and rheological properties of low density polyethylene (LDPE) composites reinforced by multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs). It was found that the Young’s modulus and tensile strength of the composites can increase by 89% and 56%, respectively, when the nanotube loading reaches 10 wt%. The curving and coiling of MWNTs play an important role in the enhancement of the composite modulus. It was also found that the materials experience a fluid–solid transition at the composition of 4.8 wt%, beyond which a continuous MWNT network forms throughout the matrix and in turn promotes the reinforcement of the MWNTs. 2006 Elsevier Ltd. A novel mixing approach for achieving a good dispersion of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) in ethylene- propylene diene monomer (EPDM) matrix has been investigated. In this approach EPDM was modified with vinyltrimethoxysilane (VTMS) during melt mixing. In addition the effect of MWCNT concentration on mechanical and rheological properties of modified EPDM has been studied. The formulated...

The effects of amine functionalization of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and CNTs weight percent (wt. %), on the first bending natural frequencies and damping properties of CNT/epoxy composites are investigated in this paper. CNTs and amine functionalized CNTs (AFCNTs), with two different weight percentages, are used to manufacture the beam shaped specimens. Epoxy, CNT/epoxy (0.25 and 0.5 wt. % of CNT...
